Vocational Experts
A vocational expert is usually present at the hearing. A vocational expert will explain to the judge what type of work you performed and explain what type of skill level was involved with your past job, whether skilled, semi-skilled, or unskilled. The vocational expert will also explain what type of exertion level was called for in your past job, such as sedentary / sit down, light medium or heavy. The ALJ needs this information to determine if your impairment would prevent you from returning to your past work. The vocational expert will assist the ALJ in making a determination whether you have acquired any skills that could transfer to a less demanding job.
